FW: [ALT-MEMBERS] Team-Based Learning: Leading Educational Change 2015 Conference - 21/10/15

We are pleased to announce that the next UK Team-Based Learning Conference will take place on Wednesday 21st October 2015 and will be hosted by the Centre for Educational Development at the University of Bradford.

This year the conference will take the theme of Leading Educational Change and we are delighted that both Professor Shirley Alexander, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education and Students) of the University of Technology, Sydney and Dr Michael Nelson, President Elect of the Team Based Learning Collaborative and Department Chair for Pharmaceutical Studies at Regis University, Colorado will be joining us to deliver the keynote and chair the presentation session respectively.

We are offering both a fundamentals track for those new to Team Based Learning (TBL) and one for people with some understanding or experience of TBL called Beyond the Basics - for further details check our provisional programme.

As TBL practitioners we are big fans of sharing experiences with and learning from our peers.  As such we actively encourage you to contribute as a presenter as well as a workshop participant.  Please submit your abstract for either a 15 minute oral presentation or a poster presentations by Friday 4th September.

Here is some of the feedback received from 2014 delegates:

•"It was absolutely superb! Going through and actually experiencing learning through first hand experience of the process of TBL, highlighted its pedagogical superiority to other forms of learning."

•82% of respondents said they intended to change their practice as a result of attending the masterclass

•"Extremely useful in helping me rethink how to redesign core teaching modules."

•89% of respondents rated the workshop as excellent

•"It provided a good insight and overview which was thought provoking - making you automatically enthused about how it could be utilised in your own place of work."

•100% of respondents said they would recommend the workshop to colleagues.

Tickets cost £90 early bird/£125 standard (from 1st September)

FW: RAISE Conference Final Call

Dear colleagues,

This is the final call  for registration  for RAISE 2015 "Inspiring Innovation". Hosted this year at the Nottingham Conference Centre on 10th and 11th of September.

 *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

RAISE has always been, and intends to remain, at the leading edge of student engagement (SE) in Higher Education. For our main theme in 2015 we want to showcase creative and innovative practices, policies, and ideas.

We will hear about novel and radical approaches – the sort of ideas that inspire students and staff, and refresh our thinking.

Our sub-themes for this year's conference are:

Inspiring new practice

  • Radical approaches in the classroom designed to inspire and engage students
  • Extracurricular innovations that draw in students not normally attracted (or perhaps in some way excluded) to such opportunities

Mainstreaming and embedding

  • Innovations in developing communities of staff and students
  • Scaling-up creative practices to departmental or institutional level

Changing thinking

  • Proposing novel conceptual frameworks or adapting older theories and ideas to further our understanding of SE and related issues
  • Innovative ways to persuading staff colleagues to adopt SE or partnership practices

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Please see our website for details and links to electronic and paper booking. (REGISTRATION)

We look forward to welcoming you to Nottingham in September.

Best wishes,

RAISE Committee

FW: Global Urban Higher Education: the Challenges and Potentials of Internationalisation

Global Urban Higher Education: the Challenges and Potentials of Internationalisation

University College London

16-17 September 2015

a symposium hosted by UCL Urban Laboratory and the Urban Lab+ International Network of Urban Laboratories.

The symposium will include:

presentations by staff and students from the Urban Lab+ network on interdisciplinarity, intercultural learning and practice-orientation in urban education

a panel discussion on internationalising urban higher education with contributions from Professor Caren Levy (UCL), Professor Michael Keith (University of Oxford), Professor Jane M. Jacobs (Yale-NUS College), Professor Alan Penn (UCL), Professor Jenny Robinson (UCL), and Kasama Yamtree (openspace).

keynote talks by Dr Adrian Lahoud (Royal College of Art), Professor Susan Parnell (African Centre for Cities) and Professor Jane M. Jacobs (Yale-NUS College).

talks from over thirty urban educators, researchers and practitioners who work in a wide range of contexts worldwide.

Register, free of charge, here: urbanhighereducation.eventbrite.co.uk

More information here: bit.ly/plus-symposium (abstracts to be released next week).

The symposium is a chance to address how multi-/cross-/inter- and trans-disciplinary learning can enhance global knowledge and address international issues in a world that is both rapidly urbanising and globalising. It is not always clear how international and intercultural approaches can best be implemented in practice, especially to ensure that urban education plays a constitutive role in addressing issues of inequality, or global disparities in the production of urban knowledge or the resources to develop and extend expertise.

The Urban Lab+ initiative is funded by the European Union’s Erasmus Mundus programme and includes eight urban laboratories from across the world: Technische Universität Berlin (Germany), École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), Università della Calabria (Italy), Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (Chile), Wits University (South Africa), Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute (India), Chinese University of Hong Kong (China), UCL Urban Laboratory (United Kingdom).

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries.

With best wishes,

Jordan Rowe
