Integrating 'sustainability' within degree programmes: towards a student handbook

This thematic workshop will bring together students and staff from a range of HEIs in order to consolidate understanding of 'sustainability' and how it can be successfully embedded not only in the education, learning experience and practice of students and staff alike within the sector, but also within the 'DNA' of HE institutions themselves. One of the goals of the Workshop is to develop the basic framework of an ESD Student Handbook for HEIs.
Educating global citizens: Green Academy as a vehicle for students and staff partnerships for education for sustainable development

The event will bring together national experts, students and staff with an interest in exploring sustainable development in the curriculum. The event will begin with a national perspective on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and with an introduction to how sustainability is being embedded within the curriculum in Southampton. The focus of the day however is to provide a platform for students and staff to work together to shape the embedding of ESD within the teaching and learning of topic areas not traditionally associated with ESD, as well as exploring the use of technology, the campus as a living lab, and extra-curricular learning. This will include exploring curriculum design and learning materials, enhancing student employability and graduate capabilities, potential open educational resources.
Online and open: modelling sustainability and 'greening the academy' through E-learning.

This seminar will be of interest to colleagues developing courses on Sustainability, particularly online but also face to face or blended. It will share the learning arising from the successful running of the first 'Nottingham Open Online Course' ('NOOC') called 'Perspectives on Sustainability'. By March 2014, this course will have run twice as an internal course for Nottingham students and staff and once as an external-facing 'MOOC' via the Futurelearn platform. We will share key insights from both development and delivery, including our models of learning and facilitation, results of evaluation and data analysis, and in particular, feedback from the HE staff who participated as students.
Food4Thought: a whole university approach to embedding ESD

The seminar will explore the holistic approach taken by Nottingham Trent University (NTU) to embed Education for Sustainable Development into university curriculum and life using the theme of food. The seminar will also explore the work of the NTU 2013-14 HEA Green Academy Change Programme and its transferability to other institutions.
INSPIRE, the green academy initiative and the sustainability skills survey – 2 years on

The focus of the event will be to provide an insight into the work of embedding embed sustainability throughout all aspects of UW:TSD's delivery over the past two years. The seminar will provide an overview of this work and highlight how it is helping wider organisations develop the in depth knowledge they need to take forward the sustainability agenda. The seminar will also provide an opportunity for university staff to highlight how they have taken sustainability forward within their roles.
Embedding education for sustainability in a creative and multi-disciplinary context

Bath Spa University has developed ESD modules for multi-disciplinary student groups across the undergraduate experience. The 'Bath Spa model' incorporates innovation and creative thinking approaches in a diverse multi-disciplinary context, extensive use of our EcoCampus Platinum rated estate and industry specialists to address sustainability challenges of the 21st century. This event will also showcase the University's new academic building with its many sustainability features.
