Fwd: Call for speakers and bookings open: Spotlight on Digital Capabilities Conference

The ucisa Digital Capabilities and Digital Education Groups invite you to the sixth Spotlight on Digital Capabilities conference on Wednesday 3rd June and Thursday 4th June 2020 at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre (BCEC) in Birmingham. This is a call for speakers at this event.

 

This year, we are focusing on students: 'Engaging students with digital capabilities'. The conference committee welcomes proposals for the following themes:

 

• Embedding digital capabilities in the curriculum
• Building digital capabilities for employability
• Developing digital capabilities with flexible learners (e.g. distance learners, commuter students, part-time, apprenticeships)
• Collaborating with staff and students on digital capabilities initiatives 

 

We invite plenary speakers and parallel sessions from a wide range of roles, e.g. academic staff, academic development professionals, learning technologists, IT trainers, Library and other professional services, to share their experiences, practical advice, approaches and strategies to implement, embed and change institutions with our delegates.

Symposium at the University of York - 

Educational talk and dialogic pedagogies: from research to impact

Date: Friday 27th March 2020
Time: 9:30-5:00 (registration 9:30-10:00)
Location: Spring Lane Building, University of York, Heslington West Campus

The symposium aims to bring together researchers and practitioners who are interested in the topics of classroom interaction, oracy in educational settings and pedagogies that promote the development of oral skills in the classroom and beyond. Research suggests that talk skills of teachers and students make a difference in supporting learner engagement and critical thinking and in raising educational outcomes. And yet, these vital skills tend to be taken for granted by both teachers and students. An emerging field of international research highlights the central role oral skills play in teaching and learning and beyond the classroom.

The symposium will welcome the following distinguished plenary speakers in the field: Dr Maureen Boyd (University at Buffalo), Dr Sara Hennessy (University of Cambridge), Dr Marion Heron (University of Surrey), and Dr Klára Šeďová (Masaryk University, Czech Republic).

Fwd: Call for papers - APT 2020 - 18th annual Academic Practice and Technology conference

We invite contributions for the 18th annual Academic Practice and Technology (APT) conference "Shaping academic practice for the new decade" that will be held on Monday July 6th, 2020 at University College London (UCL). 

APT 2020 is co-hosted by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Imperial College London and UCL. It will examine whether the relationship between academic practice and technology needs to change for the 2020s, and how digitally enhanced learning can contribute to some of the biggest challenges facing higher and further education 

Presenters and delegates will explore some critical areas that currently concern educators such as designing effective programmes and developing inclusive practice; creative and authentic feedback and assessment; and, of growing importance to students, how we can step up to meet the challenges of a sustainable future.

Fwd: TILT Festival of Learning – 16th June 2020

,    The Trent Institute for Learning and Teaching (TILT) would like to welcome contributions to its annual Festival of Learning taking place on Tuesday 16th June 2020. This year's theme is active collaborative learning.    This exciting day will showcase a range of innovative practice from colleagues on the benefits and applications of active collaborative learning. A pedagogy that is continuing to grow in popularity. The event will be valuable to anyone with interest in active learning or is considering embedding it within their courses.    Our first keynote is Jane McNeil, who led the UK's first institutional multi-disciplinary SCALE-UP project, a form of active learning. More recently, Jane headed an inter-university initiative funded by the Office for Students, which found that active collaborative learning benefits all students, and is associated with reducing and, in some cases, closing gaps in student engagement, attendance, attainment and continuation. A second keynote will be announced soon.   Within the general theme of the Festival, we welcome proposals of up to 45 minutes. The more that sessions embed the principles of active collaborative learning, the better!
