FW: [ALT-MEMBERS] Team-Based Learning: Leading Educational Change 2015 Conference - 21/10/15

 

We are pleased to announce that the next UK Team-Based Learning Conference will take place on Wednesday 21st October 2015 and will be hosted by the Centre for Educational Development at the University of Bradford.

 

This year the conference will take the theme of Leading Educational Change and we are delighted that both Professor Shirley Alexander, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education and Students) of the University of Technology, Sydney and Dr Michael Nelson, President Elect of the Team Based Learning Collaborative and Department Chair for Pharmaceutical Studies at Regis University, Colorado will be joining us to deliver the keynote and chair the presentation session respectively.

 

We are offering both a fundamentals track for those new to Team Based Learning (TBL) and one for people with some understanding or experience of TBL called Beyond the Basics - for further details check our provisional programme.

 

As TBL practitioners we are big fans of sharing experiences with and learning from our peers.  As such we actively encourage you to contribute as a presenter as well as a workshop participant.  Please submit your abstract for either a 15 minute oral presentation or a poster presentations by Friday 4th September.

 

Here is some of the feedback received from 2014 delegates:

 

•"It was absolutely superb! Going through and actually experiencing learning through first hand experience of the process of TBL, highlighted its pedagogical superiority to other forms of learning."

 

•82% of respondents said they intended to change their practice as a result of attending the masterclass

 

•"Extremely useful in helping me rethink how to redesign core teaching modules."

 

•89% of respondents rated the workshop as excellent

 

•"It provided a good insight and overview which was thought provoking - making you automatically enthused about how it could be utilised in your own place of work."

As digital technologies continue to transform the creative and pedagogic landscape, we face exciting possibilities and new challenges for the future of education. This conference aims to create an intellectually and creatively fertile environment where art and design educators can develop their thinking and practice around technologies. It will include:

• Over 30 high quality presentations and workshops
• Sector-leading keynote speakers: Paula le Dieu and Benjamin Southworth
• Student-led plenaries interrogating the concept of 'Post Digital'
• Dinner in an architectual salvage and vintage curiosity store
• Optional evening activities including Queer Tango (don't panic! Women get to lead & men to follow but conventional is ok too!)

FW: Reminder: Transforming Assessment session 5 Aug 'A 3D virtual business simulation for experiential learning...' [JISC]

Title: "A 3D virtual business simulation for experiential learning in first year accounting" 5 Aug 2015.
Presenter: Associate Professor Julie Walker (University of Queensland, Australia).

This session will describe the 3D virtual business enterprise (VBE) and its use as an experiential learning resource in a large first year accounting course. Over 900 students participated in the VBE in first semester 2015, running businesses in the virtual world and generating financial statements to report on their trading activities. The VBE is a result of a collaboration between the University of Queensland Business School and International Education Services, the original developer of the 3D business world.

Sessions are hosted by Professor Geoffrey Crisp, Dean Learning and Teaching, RMIT University and Dr Mathew Hillier, Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation, University of Queensland, Australia.

Dear colleagues, This is the final call  for registration  for RAISE 2015 "Inspiring Innovation". Hosted this year at the Nottingham Conference Centre on 10th and 11th of September.   *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* RAISE has always been, and intends to remain, at the leading edge of student engagement (SE) in Higher Education. For our main theme in 2015 we want to showcase creative and innovative practices, policies, and ideas.
