Are you interested in Technology Enhanced Learning in Higher Education?

 

The SOLSTICE e-Learning Conference which is held at Edge Hill University, focuses on the enhancement of student learning through evidence informed practices.  This year’s SOLSTICE Conference will take place on  Thursday 4^th and Friday 5^th June 2015. 

 

This well-established conference is open to everyone working in further and higher education, both nationally and internationally.  The conference includes keynote speeches,  a choice of presentations and workshops, input from students and an exhibition area.  It is an excellent opportunity for delegates to engage in debate, explore case studies of good practice and network with other delegates.  Refreshments and lunch are included and if we are lucky with the weather again, deck chairs may also be provided too!

 

‘Early Bird’ prices available for registrations completed by Friday 10^th April 2015.

Full conference (4^th and 5^th June 2015) = £300 including VAT

One day only = £150 each day.

Proposals

 

We are inviting proposals for papers, workshops, demonstrations, presentations, short “PechaKucha” style presentations and posters which broadly align with the conference themes, or relate to other areas of effective practice.  If you are considering submitting a proposal, please click here for further information and then submit your proposal via the electronic proposal form.   The deadline for proposals is 4 pm on Friday 27^th February 2015.

Teaching the History of Voluntary Action: National, International and Transnational Perspectives

In September 2013, a group of historians with common interests in voluntary action history came together at a one-day workshop hosted by the University of Liverpool to discuss best practice in the teaching of this still emerging field, primarily from the perspective of domestic British history in the modern period.

This follow-up event aims to widen the scope to encompass comparative and transnational perspectives and to broaden the network of practitioners beyond those present at this initial event.  It will include sessions on the pedagogical challenges of teaching voluntary action history, making use of innovative teaching tools and digital resources, and sharing best practice and collaboration.

A keynote will be given by Kevin O’Sullivan (NUI Galway) and other confirmed participants include Anna Bocking-Welch(Liverpool), Kate Bradley (Kent), George Gosling (Warwick), Daniel Laqua (Northumbria) and Bridget Lockyer (York).

View Web Version | Forward To A Colleague Share Events     Academic Writing Skills Date - Thursday, 19 February 2015: 11.00 -15.00 Venue - SRHE, 73 Collier St, London N1 9BE Network - Professional Development Programme This session will introduce a practical strategy that can help academic writers start and develop a writing project.  Writing to prompts - in several forms - is a strategy described in two books, Writing for Academic Journals and How to Write a Thesis.  At this workshop participants will be asked to try this strategy, discuss it and reflect on its potential uses in their own writings. Rowena Murray worked in the Centre for Academic Practice at Strathclyde University for 15 years and is now Professor in Education, Director of Research University of the West of Scotland, Ayr. She supervises PhDs and runs workshops, courses and consultancies on academic writing. Her research has been funded by the British Academy and Nuffield Foundation. She publishes books and articles on academic writing, including How to Write a Thesis and Writing for Academic Journals. She is editor of a series on higher education, beginning with The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (2009) and co-authored a book on research supervision (2009). NB this day will be followed by a Writing Retreat on Friday 20 February.   One-day Writing Retreat Date - Friday 20 February 2015: 09.00 - 16.45 Venue - SRHE, 73 Collier St, London N1 9BE Network - Professional Development Programme Friday, 25 April 2014 Aims To provide dedicated writing time and develop productive writing practices and discussions around writing-in-progress. Audience PhD students and active researchers. Format This structured retreat uses the 'typing pool' model. Writers are all in the same room, writing in scheduled time slots, using goal-setting, peer monitoring and warm up activities to progress writing projects. Because everyone is writing in the same room, there can be brief discussions at the start and end of the day (of 10 or 15 minutes), to set goals and take stock, but almost all of this retreat time will be writing time. Preparing for retreat Choose a writing project to work on – e.g. journal article, thesis chapter or grant proposal. Do the necessary reading and research on journal/publisher/funder and on the topic before the retreat and arrive ready to write. The Writing for Publication workshop on the day before this retreat will introduce strategies that will help participants make best use of this retreat, but it is not a pre-requisite. The facilitator Rowena Murray will facilitate this retreat and will support participants who are new to this approach. She will suggest strategies for making this approach work and will be working on a writing project at this retreat. Research and Innovation in Distance Education and E-learning 2015

 

We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for our annual conference, Research and Innovation in Distance Education and E-learning 2015, which will be held on 6 February.

 

The conference has a strong research-practitioner focus and we are pleased to announce our two keynote speakers for this year will be:

 

• Professor Mike Sharples – Professor of Educational Technology at the Institute for Educational Technology, The Open University UK; and academic lead for FutureLearn.
• Professor Rose Luckin – Professor of Learner Centred Design at the Institute of Education, UCL; and at the London Knowledge Lab.

 

We will also have an exciting set of speakers who will be presenting during the day, drawing on their research and practice in their chosen fields. The event will incorporate the latest outputs from the CDE’s programme of Teaching and Research Awards, and will include paper and workshop sessions with plenty of opportunity to network with other experts.
