I'm pleased to invite you to the following UCU professional development workshops taking place in London on Thursday 28 June:

Academic CVs - Thursday 28 June 09:30-12:30
This workshop will guide you through how to compile an effective, scannable academic CV: what goes in, what it's best to leave out, how to organise your information for maximum relevance and impact.

By the end of the workshop, you will know what you need to do in order to make your academic CV ready for the job market.

Academic Interviews - Thursday 28 June 13:30-16:30

There's a secret about academic interviews which hardly ever gets passed on: they are predictable. In fact, they are incredibly predictable. This workshop will explore why that is, and what, from an academic search committee's point of view, the psychology of academic interviewing really is. 

We will look in detail at common interview questions - how to anticipate them, how to prepare for them, and what a good answer sounds like - so that you have all the tools you need to perform well at your next interview.


You are welcome to apply for one or both of these courses and as ever our CPD events are free to all UCU members.

FW: Research & Evaluation SIG event - 27 June

We warmly invite you to the third meeting of the RAISE Research & Evaluation Special Interest Group. This free event will be hosted by Coventry University on Wednesday 27th June 2018.

This meeting with focus on collaboration, including workshops relating to developing collaborative practices and space to develop shared research projects.

We will also have a talk from Christine Broughan, Professor of Higher Education, Coventry University entitled 'Having the idea, getting partners and winning the bid - a case study of a HEFCE collaboration testing out a framework to evidence change'.

A one day event on fees & funding in UK HE

 

What are the implications of the post-18 review of fees and funding? What role do graduate salaries and students' costs play in perceptions of value? How should universities communicate value?

While Sam Gyimah makes headlines on value for money in English HE, it's time to explore fees, funding and the future with the leading experts. Wonkhe's day conference will bring together the higher education community to discuss the key issues affecting higher education.

FW: Next TLC Webinar - Tuesday 12th June 12.00-13.00 with Martin Hawksey

Our next Teaching and Learning Conversation (TLC) is on Tuesday 12th June at 12:00 – 13:00 (60 minutes) with Martin Hawksey, Chief Innovation, Community and Technology Officer, Association for Learning Technology.

This month's TLC is titled:

 'Twitter in Education: Interactively exploring the conversation with TAGS and TAGSExplorer'. 

This conversation will explore approaches to help learners and educators gain more insight and a feeling of place within hashtag communities. As part of this we will look at TAGS and TAGSExplorer tools (https://tags.hawksey.info) which have been developed with educators and learners in mind to help support the collection, analysis and exploration of Twitter hashtag communities. These free tools provide a means to collect data from Twitter searches and analysis the results either in Google Sheets, where the data is collected, or visualized in the companion TAGSExplorer web interface. As part of this conversation we will touch upon the limitation of data collection from Twitter and issues around data protection and privacy. We will also provide some examples of where TAGS/TAGSExplorer has been used within an educational context.
