Student Learning and Teaching Network conference 2011

The Student Learning and Teaching Network (SLTN) invites both students and staff to attend their next event which will be hosted by Northumbria University in Newcastle on the 14^th of February 2011. The SLTN promotes active student engagement in learning and teaching communities. This conference will explore the boundaries to student engagement in learning and teaching in higher education and will provide an opportunity for students and staff to identify ways that these boundaries can be challenged through a series of interactive sessions and workshops.

For those people that are staying in Newcastle overnight we will be arranging to meet up on the evening of the 13^th of November

Call for Contributions

We invite offers of Short Presentations (15 minutes), Interactive Presentations (30 minutes), Workshops (60 minutes) and Posters. Offers of contributions must be submitted on the conference abstract submission form by email to bioconf@leeds.ac.uk by Wednesday 19th January 2011. Conference Outline

This international conference will provide a platform to consider how we nurture and inspire all bioscience students to realise their full potential, and will:

·         showcase and disseminate evidence informed practice in the biosciences from the UK and overseas;

·         explore how we can most effectively engage bioscience students to maximise their learning and achievement; and

·         provide networking and professional development opportunities for participants.

We are now taking bookings for the Conference. Places are limited to 120 so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Lead presenter, early bird rate & students: £200 (until 1st April 2011). Full delegate rate: £255 for bookings from 2 April - 10 June 2011.

Bioscience Graduate Attributes for the 21st Century,

Edinburgh Napier University, Tuesday 8th February 2011

 

The Bioscience graduate of 2011 will have been asked to absorb an enormous amount of subject-specific information and acquire a very wide range of specific and generic skills. Many would agree there is a need to prioritise and identify key, desirable attributes for our students. During this event we will consider a number of graduate skills and qualities from a range of perspectives. The weighting placed on these by participants should help inform future work for the Centre and colleagues with publications and other resources.

Announcing the 'The e-Assessment-Question 2011' Conference and Exhibition
London, 30th and 31st March 2011

Now in its ninth year, the e-Assessment Question is the key Conference and Exhibition examining the practical aspects of e-Assessment and Computer Based Testing and its use from the classroom to the workplace.  The main theme for 2011 will be 'Assessment of learning, assessment for learning, assessment is learning' with a keynote address from Chris Jones Director-General City and Guilds and an impressive line-up of speakers.  Other features of this year's conference include:

A session entitled "The role and importance of technology in assessing and supporting learners in the classroom and the workplace".  This is a special eAA (e-Assessment Association) led session on Day One (pm) which will conclude with the 2011 AGM of the eAA. A keynote address from John Stone, CEO, LSN, will lead into a "Question Time" debate with leading e-Assessment experts.

A sub-theme looking at mobile assessment. This will culminate in a workshop (day two, pm) which will focus on using your mobile, pda, laptop, iphone, ipad, kindle etc.  to access formative assessments, including a hands-on session led by Stuart Jones of Abel Consulting.  We are indebted to them for the development of an e-Assessment APP for the conference.

An Exhibition of leading suppliers in the field of e-Assessment and the opportunity to meet and network with those selecting, developing and implementing e-Assessment in all its broad forms from the classroom to the workplace.

Dear colleagues

May we wish you a happy and successful year and draw your attention to what will be SCEPTrE's final conference as we finish at the end of March. The focus is on student development through their wider life experiences while they are at university and there is a strong focus on capability development. We have two very good and interesting keynote speakers. Professor John Cowan will call for radical changes in pedagogy to support these forms of student development and Maret Staron (Mindful Creations Australia) will talk about her research and development work into life-based learning in the work environment. Her work emphasises the need for a strength-based approach to capability development.

 

We have structured the conference to encourage lots of participation and sharing of practice and we are sponsoring it to keep costs to a minimum. We hope that you will not only want to attend the conference but share your own practices in supporting student development.
