The aim of the symposium is to bring
together researchers and practitioners who are interested in the topics
of classroom interaction, oracy in educational settings and pedagogies
that promote the development of oral skills in the classroom and beyond.
Research suggests that talk skills of teachers and students make a
difference in supporting learner engagement and critical thinking and in
raising educational outcomes. And yet, these vital skills tend to be
taken for granted by both teachers and students. An emerging field of
international research highlights the powerful role of talk in teaching
and learning and its benefits beyond the classroom.
The symposium will lead to significant advances in our understanding of the role of talk in the classroom and beyond, and also the creation of networks of researchers and practitioners.
