FW: Forthcoming Tutoring Webinar 16 September 2015- bookings now re-opened

Fresh thinking on Personal Tutoring and Academic Advising: toward new models of practice

An online webinar: Wednesday September 16th 1.30-4.30pm

In this facilitated webinar three Higher Education Institutions will present their current thinking on the provision of support to their students through an academic advising or personal tutoring system.

All contributions represent 'works in progress'; two are currently considering major revisions to their frameworks and/or policies while the third has been giving fresh attention to one important aspect, the development of employability. While all three models have student support at the heart, they differ along significant dimensions: the connection between the tutor/adviser role and the academic curriculum; the relationship between academic and pastoral support and how this is intended to operate; whether support is provided primarily to an individual or within a group setting; and how the staff tutor and student peer support dimensions can dovetail to provide enhanced transition support.

In addition, presenters consider what kind of data would provide indicators of the success or otherwise of provision.

This will provide a platform for discussion and reflection on:

1. key dimensions of difference in how UK HE conceives of the personal tutor/academic adviser roles; 2. how the effectiveness of such provision can best be evaluated.
