Higher education is an increasingly global market, as students become more mobile and more willing to look beyond their national boundaries for value education. Many of our universities have been able to capitalise on the reputation of UK quality and standards of provision. Maintaining this reputation is important in an increasingly competitive environment.
Against a background of growing cultural diversity in the classroom, this workshop is aimed at academic staff who supervise international research students, directors of postgraduate studies with responsibility for overseas research students, and staff development officers who "train" supervisors of international research students. The objective is to enable participants to identify the key issues for supervisors when working with international research students, and to develop strategies for managing these issues.
Participants will be encouraged, through guided group discussions, to consider where supervisors fit within the structure for meeting the needs of international research students within their own HEI. They will also explore possible and appropriate supervisor responses to the challenges faced by international research students.
The cost of the workshop is £175 for UKCGE Members and £225 for non-members. This price includes lunch, refreshments and a delegate pack.
