Fwd: SEDA NETWORKING WORKSHOP: Enabling & Supporting Educational Change

This event is for colleagues based within academic departments, schools and faculties in higher education (including HE in FE) who have a role (formal or informal) in organisation, leadership and/or management of specific aspects of learning and teaching.

For many staff, their learning & teaching activities and responsibilities go beyond designing curricula and working with students. They are involved in mentoring new colleagues, co-ordinating teams, leading projects, facilitating professional development workshops and seminars, communicating and sharing good practice, contributing to cross-faculty or cross-institutional initiatives, and so on. Whilst this work can be very rewarding there are also challenges including working with a range of different staff, leading without authority, and sometimes being the sole learning & teaching 'champion' in a department. This workshop will provide an opportunity to meet a range of colleagues with similar roles, to share experiences and ideas, and to explore some of the underpinning principles for this type of role in higher education.

The aims of the workshop are to:

  • provide a welcoming, confidential space for sharing experiences, issues and ideas;
  • explore scholarship, policy and practice relating to educational development and change;
  • act as a springboard for further networking and professional development opportunities

The workshop price also includes a copy of SEDA Special 41 (Doing a Good Job Well - Being Recognised as an Experienced, Professional Teacher in HE)

Please see SEDA Website for further details. Follow discussions about this and other SEDA conferences on Twitter using #sedaconf.

Student Experience Conference 2019: Early bird booking deadline approaching!

How can higher education providers support student and graduate success?

Please be reminded that early bird rate registration for the Student Experience Conference, to be held on Monday 4 November 2019 at the University of Derby Enterprise Centre, will end on Monday 14 July.

The conference themes are:

·         Ensuring success for a diverse student body

·         Supporting success over the student journey

·         Communicating for success

Baasit Siddiqui - Derby Alumni, educational speaker and regular resident on award-winning show Gogglebox, will open the conference with a keynote address. We will then invite delegates to attend a variety of workshops and presentations based on supporting student and graduate success.

The finalised agenda will follow, but we expect a varied programme including content on:

·         Partnership working with students

·         Embedding co-creation in communication

·         Effective approaches to transition

·         Widening participation across the student journey

·         Approaches to eliminate attainment gaps

To embed our ethos of students as partners all presentations will be co-delivered (or exclusively delivered) by students.

Take advantage of the early bird cost of £75 per delegate until 14 July: after this date, the normal delegate price will be £100.  You can book your place here.

For more information please contact us at dsec@derby.ac.uk. We'll be updating Twitter as we prepare for the conference using #SEConf2019 so keep an eye out for exciting updates.

We hope to see you all at the conference!

Best wishes,
