Student Experience Conference 2019 – Monday 4 November: Call for Contributions

How can higher education providers support student and graduate success?

We're pleased to announce the call for contributions for the 2019 Student Experience Conference at the University of Derby.

The conference has the theme of 'student and graduate success'. Supporting success in higher education is a current focus.  The Office for Students highlight in their strategy that all students need to be supported to succeed.  Additionally, Advance HE produced a Student Success Framework (2017) so institutions can consider how they can enhance student success. This conference invites delegates to share best practice and experiences in supporting both student and graduate success.

We welcome submissions based on the following themes:

·       Ensuring success for a diverse student body – The Office for Students' strategy outlines the importance of supporting all students to succeed in higher education, whatever their background. How can we support an increasingly diverse population to achieve success?

·       Supporting success over the student journey – students undergo a range of transitions into, within, and out of higher education. From prospective student through to alumni, how can we support students?

·       Communicating for success – communication plays an important role in supporting success.  It is essential that this is two-way – what do students tell us, and what do we tell them? This theme will discuss the roles of communication and student voice in shaping student success.

This conference has been developed with students and to continue the ethos of students as partners we ask that all presentations are co-delivered (or exclusively delivered) by students.

Submissions to be sent to dsec@derby.ac.uk by 22 May 2019. We welcome submissions from students or staff in higher education, as well as partnership organisations. Your proposal should indicate whether your session will be a presentation or workshop.  Please find the submission template attached to this email. We are also seeking student or graduate presenters to deliver a 15 minute keynote about what student success means to them.  Please complete a proposal if you're interested in delivering a keynote.  We will confirm accepted proposals by 10 June 2019. If your proposal is accepted, you must register as a conference delegate (cost of £75 per delegate at Early Bird price, £100 after Early Bird period) – registration details will be circulated in June.

For any queries, please contact us by emailing dsec@derby.ac.uk
