Fwd: Booking reminder: Digital Poverty

Digital Poverty (Equality)

Date: Wednesday 14th July 2021

Time: 13:00 - 15:30

Booking: www.ucisa.ac.uk/events

The pandemic has taught us a lot of things about working from home, and it also highlighted another technology challenge that had gone under the radar, that of Digital poverty.

Without access to student computer rooms and the power of Janet many students and staff struggled to carry on as normal. This was made worse because security requirements meant certain requirement had to be met by hardware etc. Though known of, the digital poverty gap had not been fully addressed.

Though some aspects need governmental help this session will consider what we can do to make access to our systems more affordable and effective in low band width situations or when low end hardware is all that is available for high end work.

The annual conference of the Active Learning Network and Anglia Ruskin University will take place in just under a month's time on the afternoon of Tuesday 20 July and all day on Wednesday 21 July 2021.

Active Learning Conference

All together - Active Inclusive Learning

20-21 July 2021, online

The fourth international Active Learning Conference, sponsored by Talis Elevate, is a free, two-day online event. It  will start with an afternoon of masterclasses, followed by a day of keynotes and sessions to consider the practice, research and leadership of active, collaborative and inclusive learning.

Anglia Ruskin University is keen to engage you in developing a shared understanding and commitment to active learning. Join us to explore how we can inspire and challenge all of our students by promoting rich and inclusive learning experiences.

Programme structure

Afternoon of masterclasses

14.00–17.00, 20 July

Choose from one of three masterclasses below to deepen your knowledge and begin to apply what you have learned to your own practices:

  • The Active Learning Podblast - an approach to promoting multimedia co-creation masterclass.
  • Reinventing the online space masterclass.
  • Digital storytelling masterclass.

Conference day

9.30–16.30, 21 July

Be inspired by our keynote followed by active learning sessions including sharing of practice through presentations, poster sessions, workshops, walks, soap boxes and lightning strikes.

Keynote: We are delighted to hear from Dr Alex Moseley, Head of Anglia Learning and Teaching.

He will be speaking about: The role of play and playfulness in active learning.

Play often forms a part of active learning approaches: such as game-based, creative, storytelling, prototyping or other activities. However, a playful attitude amongst both teacher/facilitators and participants can elevate the effectiveness of active learning approaches regardless of discipline or activity type. In this keynote Alex will examine playfulness as an attitude, and how it shares and supports active learning as an approach.
